The best way to guage one’s character is to watch how he or she behaves when no one is watching or no immediate benefit is expected as a result of that behavior. Abigail summarizes it beautifully in the quote below

“The best index to a person’s character is
(a) how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and
(b) how he treats people who can’t fight back. ”
- Abigail van Buren

Quotes: Food for thought

Posted by Guru on June 6th, 2008

Here is another testament to the power of belief, choice. Everyday, in our every action we are faced with a choice. And knowingly or unknowingly (mostly unknowingly as we choose not to know) we choose. One of such choices we are faced with every day, in every situation is whether we are going to be happy or unhappy. But do we take responsibility.

No, no, noooooooooo…

“Everything was going great until he did this, she did that to me…” blah blah blah…

Stop for a second, take a deep breath and…

Listen to Abraham Lincoln’s wise words below and pay heed…

“Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be”
- Abraham Lincoln

The little known wonder is that when we choose to be happy, live and work happily, our results are way better, our satisfaction level is way higher, people want to be around us, our relationships are enriched.

But we rarely notice this difference.

Because…

You know, we are tooooooo BUSY. Doing what?

Doing the same old thing, spinning the same old wheel that has always made us unhappy.

Thus we choose to be unhappy.

Let’s commit to be nice, to be courteous others and to be happy within ourselves, come what may. Let’s make our days memorable for ourselves and those around us.

Quotes: Food for Thought

Posted by Guru on May 30th, 2008

If anything can come close to magic in real life, it is the power of your belief. So ask yourself, what do you believe in? Because, after all, what you believe in basically determines whether you will succeed or fail in your attempts to achieve anything of greatness. So it’s worth all the time to evaluate our own belief system and make sure we are setting the foundation right for success.

Today’s quote beautifully depicts the power of belief, the power of faith…

“The only thing that stands between a man and what he wants from life is often merely the will to try it and the faith to believe that it is possible.”- Richard M. DeVos

Fulfilling on our dreams is not just by luck and is not easy. It takes dedicated work and planning.

“It takes a person wide awake to make his dreams come true”

- Roger Babson

Quotes: Food for thought

Posted by Guru on May 9th, 2008

I picked this quote from my dear friend, Raj’s blog. It reminded me of the dichotomy of our claims. Most of the times we don’t take enough responsibility for our actions, especially when the results are not impressive. If the results are great, then yes its all because of my thoughts and actions. If the results are not that good, then it is due to someone else or some external factor and I had no control over it. Let’s use the quote below and let’s begin to take ownership of our thoughts and actions. Then, may be, we can open the gates to a new future that is heaven-like.

“The mind is its own place,
and in itself can make heaven of hell,
or a hell of heaven”

- John Milton
