Who Am I?

Posted by Guru on July 18th, 2008

Welcome to Boomer411. We hope you will visit again. You can also subscribe to our RSS feed.

We all know that we have two parts to our brains. Our left brain that is analytical in nature and our right brain is the source of our creative juices. Some are more left brained while some others are more right brained. But how much do we know or realize the capabilities that our brain gifts us with? How much do we understand the capabilities of each of these parts?

I can almost hear you say, why should I care?

Yes, Why should you care?

If learning about this helped you live your life more holistically, if learning about this helps you relieve some of your stress-points, if learning about this changes who you are for the better that you always wanted to become, wouldn’t you care?

Judith Auslander of Wise Heart Coaching (commercial break: Judith has joined the privileged group of Boomer411 trustees. So watch for her web site/article recommendations on Boomer411) shared this insightful video, titled ‘My Stroke of Insight’.

Click here to watch the video, titled ‘My Stroke of Insight’.

In this video, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, neural anatomist shares her own experience in an engaging, gripping conversation with us. To keep the element of surprise, I am not revealing her experience. But I am very positive that it will touch you and stimulate you to look at your life differently; it sure touched me. Be sure to sit down, relax and watch the video with a calm and open mind for maximum learning.

As you watch this, think about how annoyingly left-brain oriented, as a society, we have become. What a wonderful gift it would be to our lives to find that Nirvana, that inner joy to resonate throughout our lives?

After you watch the video, scroll down and answer this question…

Who has the power or control to let that life force, that inner joy to resonate throughout our lives or not?

Do post your comments/thoughts on the same.

If you have aging parents who stay independently in their homes; you know the feeling of wanting to ensure their safety. You’d probably want to have a way of being alerted in case he or she falls down in their home and is unable to get up. Basically, a simple way that allows them to live their lives as independently as they’d like; yet a means for you to be alerted when they need your help, would make our lives more enjoyable. Such tools would be very empowering, if used correctly. Imagine the stress and the cost that could be saved  by avoiding or altogether delaying trips to skilled nursing home facilities, by taking advantage of such tools.

Well there are many such tools already available on the market and at an affordable cost when you compare to the cost of skilled nursing home care. Check out this link to find articles and tools pertaining to this topic. Although, some of the products discussed may be in their early stages, there are other products that are available and useful immediately depending on your situation.

Aging related Health Conditions

Posted by Guru on April 18th, 2008

There is a vast array of information around health conditions and diseases related to aging and the proper care for such conditions. The Council on Aging Silicon Valley  (or COA) has put together a very nice compendium of informative articles and fact sheets in their Network of Care Library. Be sure to check these out and send this to others who might benefit from this information.

Also, if you are in the Bay Area or know someone living in the area that might need some help, check out the COA website for a full list of services they offer to elders. You can also search on Boomer411 using the keywords “Council on Aging” or “COA” to find the information.

Peace of Mind : Who doesn’t need it?

Posted by Guru on April 8th, 2008

In this busy world of mechanical chores, with unending items on our To-Do Lists, life is full of tension and stress. We expect so much from our relationships, but only get a fraction of our expectations back. It’s not like we don’t long for some peace of mind, some harmony. But everywhere we look, sometimes it feels like it is just adding to more stress. Is this really a hopeless situation? Before we attempt to answer this question, let’s read this short story…

“Jill is 6 years old and very energetic as all 6 year olds are. In addition, she is very bubbly and always running/bouncing around. She keeps getting minor injuries, but doesn’t see how. She moves to different spot and continues bouncing around, but inadvertently keeps bumping into things. But she cannot see why she keeps getting injuries.”

Just like our Jill, sometimes we can’t see the source of our own problems. Sometimes, our priorities may be mixed up. At such times it probably helps to slow down and take a few deep breaths. It probably also helps to take the help of the masters in this field. Sometimes the source of our problems may be our outlook on life or our view of the world and we can’t see it for what it is while we are in it. Holistic lifestyle may be one way to live stress-free and have a little peace of mind.

While we are talking about peace of mind, try this on Boomer411.com. Search for the keywords, ‘Peace of Mind’ or actually just click on this link to see the results of the search.
