Controlling our emotions: A holistic approach

Posted by Guru on February 18th, 2008

Welcome to Boomer411. We hope you will visit again. You can also subscribe to our RSS feed.

Relationships are one of the prickly issues many times, especially when things are tough. Even more tricky are the issues related to our emotions, our moods. In most cases our moods and emotions are automatically triggered and we may not even be aware of them. But yet, they drive our every action and determine whether we succeed in life or not. But facing and controlling our emotions is not a task for the faint-hearted. It takes a lot of courage and will power to face up to our own weaknesses. But with good help, one can tide over these issues. The price one pays is big as it requires a lot of commitment, willpower and discipline. But the rewards are very huge.

To give an anology, consider you are trying to control weeds in your garden and you only cut the top part of the weed, leaving the roots intact in the ground because pulling the roots out takes more effort and time. In time, the weeds grow back again. Now imagine you took the time to pull out the weeds with the roots and now the weeds do not grow back that quickly. The rewards are a longer lasting healthy, green garden.

This is common sense in gardening. But when it comes to handling our emotions, moods and relationships, most times we blindly act in ways similar to cutting the visible, top portion of the weed. But we never the less expect the results to be a near permanent fix to our problems.

Here are some quick, short videos that help us start on a more holistic approach to addressing these issues. Each video is approximately 15 minutes long, but is packed with valuable insights. Try watching one video every morning. It will hopefully make your day more peaceful, more productive. Some of the topics addressed are ‘Is Anger worth it?’, ‘Dealing with stress’, ‘Improving our relationships with others’, etc.

Quotes: Food for thought

Posted by Guru on February 15th, 2008

This simple quote from Gandhi, who won freedom for India through non-violence and proved to the world that there is power in non-violence, is packed with a lot of meaning and is very relevant to the present times. It is very easy for us to blame our problems on someone else or our government or some foreign nation and so on, but the courage and strength lies with those who willingly shed the easy path and embrace perseverance, endurance to achieve their objective and make a difference.

“You must be THE CHANGE you wish to see in the world” - Gandhi

If there is a problem, let’s quit whining, let’s quit the blame game; but let us start on a new journey to initiate the desired change ourselves. It is not easy, it is not popular; but it is uncommon, it is very powerful and makes a BIG DIFFERENCE.

Mortgage Payment Trouble - There is some Hope

Posted by Guru on February 13th, 2008

Having trouble making your mortgage payments? or know someone who is having trouble? Worried about possible bankruptcy or foreclosure?

Well there may be some hope and the name of that hope is, “Hope Now Alliance“.

What is Hope Now Alliance?

It is a collaboration of industry leaders to help people facing mortgage crisis, formed specifically to help speed up delivery of help during this worst mortgage crisis to befall this nation in years.

In their own words, “HOPE NOW is an alliance between counselors, servicers, investors, and other
mortgage market participants. This alliance will maximize outreach efforts to
homeowners in distress to help them stay in their homes and will create a unified,
coordinated plan to reach and help as many homeowners as possible. The
members of this alliance recognize that by working together, they will be more
effective than by working independently.”

They have set out to accomplish the following as part of their action plan:

  • The alliance will conduct a new, national direct mail campaign to contact
at-risk borrowers, encouraging them to either call their lender or a credit
    counselor.
  • This alliance has agreed to adopt a standard process model that will
strengthen and speed work flow, productivity, and communications
    between servicers and counselors.
  • The alliance will work to expand the capacity of an existing national
network to receive, assess, counsel, refer, and connect borrowers to
    servicers.
  • The American Securitization Forum, which represents servicers, investors,
and other secondary market participants, has announced that counseling
fees can be reimbursed from securitization transactions in appropriate
    circumstances.
  • The alliance will develop common communications guidelines that will be
used to respond to at-risk borrowers in order to offer them the best possible
    solutions, customized for each borrower.
  • The servicers have agreed to work toward cross-industry technology
solutions to more effectively connect servicers and counselors together in
order to better serve the homeowner.
  • The alliance will develop a common set of metrics to measure the
    initiative’s progress.

The Bottomline:

The alliance is offering to help people in trouble. If you or anyone you know is facing foreclosure or having difficulty making mortgage payments, then they need to take advantage of this offer of help. So please spread the word about this to those in need and have them call the alliance’s hotline number to speak to a live counselor.

Employment resources for 50+ workers

Posted by Guru on February 11th, 2008

Employment or job sites addressing the needs of people in their 50+ are many. I recently found this post by Mark Miller of RetirementRevised, in which he attempts to provide a comprehensive listing of such web sites and their use here.

This is a good link to save in your favorites for future reference.

Quotes: Food for thought

Posted by Guru on February 8th, 2008

Today’s quote reminds us about the value evaluating our assumptions, beliefs. Though it is so easy to drift into the mindless auto-pilot mode and just react, if we reflect upon it, some of our worst decisions probably happened when we were operating in this mode. Because if we operate based on our common sense or hearsay, then we are not really taking the opportunity presented by the situation to make the best of the situation. So we lose valuable opportunities thus. This quote reminds us that common sense may not always lead us to good solutios.

“Common sense is nothing more than a deposit of prejudices laid down by the mind before you reach eighteen” – Albert Einstein
