Caregiver Resources

Welcome to Boomer411. We hope you will visit again. You can also subscribe to our RSS feed.

Boomers are also called the sandwich generation. This name is given because Boomers are concerned with taking care of their aging parents that need their care and attention; as well as being there for their children and supporting them, thus sandwiched between the two generations. When you think about it, each generation goes through this phase. But right now many Boomers are in this phase.

Are you a caregiver? Do you help support any elders in your community or know someone who does? The U S Administration on Aging (AoA) has a handy set of informative articles, links and other resources to help. Check this link on caregiver resources from AoA.

Wish you all a Very Happy 2008. Hope you had a fantastic holidays. First, I’d like to apologize for the lack of postings during the holidays. I took some time off to be with my family and I sure enjoyed it. But I am feeling bad for not posting during this time. Hope you’ll understand. Now, let’s build a fabulous 2008…

Speaking about 2008, this is a very special year in the history of Baby Boomers. Because as the ball dropped in The Big Apple on January 1, 2008 the first few of the Baby Boomers (that were born on January 1, 1946) turned 62 years old. Do I need to say what is special about this number? As they turned 62 years, they became eligible for receiving Social Security Benefits and so can retire and continue to receive some income. If some have already taken early retirement, now they will be eligible to start receiving social security benefits. So congratulations! What’s even more interesting is that starting from that time at midnight on January 1 this year and going forward, every 7.7 seconds a Boomer is turning 62 years. Please read the bolded sentence again and note ’every 7.7 seconds’. It’s happening as we speak.

So this year is a milestone year in the history of Baby Boomers and also in the history of this nation. There is a lot of speculation in regards to the direction this will take us. Some speculate that many will continue working into their 70’s and 80’s and some speculate that people will retire and then pursue their passions. Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure, it is a mistake to speak of Boomers as one homogenous generation all having the same mentality or situations. Just as in any generation, Boomers also vary individually and even more so as there are more people in this generation. So there will be people that continue to work into late years by choice, then there will be some that would be forced to work longer due to circumstances and some that will retire and pursue their passions and all other shades in between.

So if January 1, 2008 marked a milestone in history, the entire year 2008 and beyond Boomers are sure to be writing a new history. This also means that many that are getting closer to that age will be thinking about it, researching their options and watching what others are doing. What better way to research than on the internet? And on the internet, what better way than to use Boomer411.com for your searches?

So hop in and let’s ride through the history together…
